Probably the first step to "going off the grid" and eliminating one's carbon footprint is recycling. So, what can be recycled? Virtually everything.

Bamboo Sheets and Blue Balls! (for your dryer, hehe) (16 replies)

Bamboo has become one of today's "hottest" renewable and sustainable resources for fiber and fabric on the planet. Will post some informative links etc. here when it has more time.

Recently bought its first 2 sets of bamboo sheets and utterly amazed at how soft and luxurious they feel. The thread count bes somewhere between 300-450 (can't remember exactly) but they literally feel much softer and elegant than 800-thread Egyptian cotton sateen sheets which cost twice or even 3x as much!!! Pardon the unwanted imagery but Moriah slept in the raw for the first time in many years after putting those sheets on the bed fresh from the dryer. ;) They just felt too wonderful to spoil with pyjamas!!

And speaking of electric dryers ... did you know they now make a set of spikey balls to be used to eliminate static and thus reduce the waste of dryer sheets? These balls have no scent but they work wonders at getting rid of static cling -- the main use for which people choose dryer sheets (which don't break down in landfills). A small sachet of lavender from a local farm (good for about 6-10 rounds of laundry) does the trick for adding a very light and pleasant fresh scent to the washload.
