Practicing with Heresy

Definition

A heresy is a deviation from the orthodox beliefs of a belief system.

History of Heresy

Put history here

Christian Heresies

In the middle of the 2nd century CE there were (at least) three unorthodox groups of Christians who adhered to a range of doctrines which divided the Christian communities of the time: They were : Marcionism; Montanism ; and the gnostic teachings of Valentinus.

Some initial comments from reviewers of unpublished plan.

Wow, so this would allow 2 or 3 people to have their own forum, and make it the way they want. It would be perfect for daily prayer chats amongst friends.

This is like yahoo groups, but with a Christian domain and background, without having to set anything up. I like it.

Cool, we can be protected, yet we can still show the light of Christ. I like this.

This really is different, its not a cookie cutter forum.

Chocolate

You mean, members will get real chocolate, like in the mail or something. Yes!

Why Phorum

You don't think small do you? Comment when I was telling the person that we might end up with 2000 forums, each with just a few members. Scalability is key. This is one of the reasons we are running phorum, and not Vbulletin. I do not want ads in the private area of the site, nor do I want to require private users to have to donate. Thus, we need to keep server load to a minimum. Phorum is exceedingly light, and highly scalable, some pretty high traffic sites have proven it out time and time again. The key is to keep the feature sets, either light, or on external servers where they can be shared by other sites, or ad driven.

Timing

I want this now Not happening, lots of coding to do first. Still more planning. (well it was an earlier response….)

Disputes

No more arguing with brothers and sisters over doctrine when a seeker asks questions . I think this will be big.

You won't make this a nanny state, will you? As an extremist fundy in some matters, and an extreme liberal in others, what nanny could survive? :) No, the members, specifically member #1 of each forum set the tone. Some private forums might be nanny states.. others might be pretty out there. If a forum is out there, and has a public section, be careful to vet new members before allowing access. Be aware, the admin, who is not me btw, is brutal when it comes to flames in the public areas…. Do not flame, dispute, or troll. If you must do so, request a private forum, where you are member #1.

What about cussing and language… I'm always tripping the word censor? The admin set that up, you can work around it if you absolutely must… but please do in a private forum. Remember, we may have youngsters present in the public area. Thus it has to be family friendly. The private areas do not have such restrictions, although they do have a word censor. At some point, it is likely we will have a customized censor to cover geocultural language areas.

Sheep Stealing

What about your other forum duties? This is a coding project, once it is up and running, its software support. I fully anticipate the members running it, although a number of staff will be needed for tech and administrative support. I am fully committed to Lee's forum, its members and staff. This website is designed to complement, not compete, and to fill in gaps, where doing so on a large forum is not practical. It is also designed to complement Erwin's site as well. (Lee, Erwin, and I do talk with each other)

Can we have public theological forums or congregations. No, at least not initially. There are many fine forums which provide such forums. We don't wish to sheep steal, nor duplicate efforts. Remember, I am a staffer at CF. If people want public forums, they can go to CF, CCF, or C-C-F, plus numerous others. This doesn't mean if there is some unmet need, we won't look into it.

What about sharing ideas or code

Can I use your prayer alert code on my site? Sure, the more the better… the prelimiary one right now, is not mine, but a third parties. Just follow the link, its easy to install.

While the intent is to make a profit, it is not to get rich off of a work for Christ If someone can use a feature from here, by all means contact us, and we'll see what we can do. If you do need actual consulting though, that would be at market rates… just as a tentmaker would need to charge for his labor. Code however, as long as attribution is granted and a few links shared, will be available at no charge.

What about opening the door to ....

With private forums, what if Satanists set up a private forum? Cool!!! If they want to come here, this is a good thing. They will within their private forum get new scriptures daily, and will be immersed in a Christian environment. God's word doesn't return void. This could be a very good thing. Also, being their forum is private, they won't be attacked, and being other forums are private, they can't very well attack others either. God is in control.

What about accountability, what if some members set up a forum to promote (insert hot button sin here)? Each private forum can have their own rules set up by the leader of that forum, typically member #1. If they don't see (insert hot button sin here) is a problem, no problem, (excluding illegal activity).

Please note: John 16:7-8 7But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:

The Holy Spirit and scripture have a much greater potential to change hearts, than does a staff member, who these members have never met before. This doesn't mean forum members can't call a staffer or other member in for counsel, and possible correction, but that staff will not be actively policing private forums, other than for flagged illegal activity. We will be adding pastorial oversight in the near future, on an on call basis. One volunteer is already on board.

Lastly, there is the context sensitive scripture placement. Ie, if a thread is about topic A, the Bible verse code will present chapters relative to that topic. I had actually considered using the Amazon virtual turk as part of this automation, but initially, it will be a pretty simple scripture presenter. Over time, we may end up with something like the turk, not sure. Make no mistake, this will not be a prooftester for automated rebukes.
